Cross-cultural validation and psychometric testing of the Seniors Empowerment and Advocacy in Patient Safety (SEAPS) Survey Turkish form: A methodological study
Educational Gerontology · Ocak 2025
Özet
This study aims to adapt ‘The Seniors Empowerment Advocacy in Patient Safety Survey’ into Turkish and to conduct its psychometric examination to measure older people’s self-advocacy regarding patient safety. This methodological study was conducted with the participation of 238 older individuals aged 65. The reliability and validity values were analyzed through linguistic and content validity, confirmatory factor analysis (CFA), convergent validity, Rasch analysis, Cronbach’s alpha, and item-total score correlations. The face and content validity of the scale were found to be adequate, while the CFA of the revised scale was found to be satisfactory. Rasch analysis shows that the scale is capable of differentiating different levels of self-advocacy. The CR value determined for convergent validity was 0.764–0.817 for the subscales; while the AVE value was found to vary between 0.449 and 0.545. Cronbach’s alpha coefficients were high, with sub-dimension values ranging from 0.76 to 0.82 as well as an overall value of 0.88. This scale was determined to be valid and reliable in its measurement of self-advocacy. Healthcare planners, providers, and researchers can use this scale to assess self-advocacy as a health behavior in older people.
