Humanistic behavior, empathic anger and professional commitment among nurses: A correlational study

Objective: This study aimed to investigate the relationship between nurses' humanistic behavior skills, empathic anger, and professional commitment levels. Method: This descriptive and correlational research was conducted with 165 nurses. Data were collected through face-to-face interviews using the ‘Nurse Information Form,’ ‘Nursing Humanistic Practice Skills Scale,’ ‘Nursing Professional Commitment Scale,’ and ‘Empathic Anger Scale.’ The analyses utilized descriptive statistics, multiple regression, and latent profile analysis. Results: The average age of nurses is 30.5 ± 5.22; 75.8% are female, and 80.6% are university graduates. A weak but significant positive correlation was found between humanistic behavior and professional commitment (r = 0.30, p < 0.001); however, no significant correlation was found between empathic anger and professional commitment (p > 0.05). According to a multiple regression analysis, professional commitment is a significant predictor of humanistic behavior (β = 0.36); furthermore, voluntarily choosing a profession increases professional commitment (β = 1.05). Conclusion: Latent profile analysis revealed that nurses were grouped into three different latent profiles. It has been determined that nurses have different profiles in terms of humanistic behavior, professional commitment, and empathic anger levels.
