Importance of brics countries in the world economy

The aim of this chapter is to analyze the economic importance of the BRICS in the world economy. The BRICS was established in 2010 to bring together the world's five most important developing countries and to create a more advanced and competitive economic power against developed Western economies. This study will analyze whether BRICS has fulfilled its founding purpose and the economic role it plays in the world economy. For this aim, by using the main macroeconomic indicators obtained from the World Bank WDI database for the years 2000-2023 (World Bank, 2024), the economic development processes of the BRICS countries both within themselves and in the world economy will be analyzed comparatively in terms of the pre-2010 (2000-2009) and post-2010 periods (2010-2023). Although China dominates the BRICS as the leading country, the findings reveal that the BRICS has increased its economic power and influence in the world economy.
