Psychotropic drugs and sleep

In humans, the cycle of sleep-wakefulness has a daily rhythm called the circadian rhythm. The effects of psychotropics on biological rhythmicity can occur via possible neurotransmitter and neuromediator mechanisms within a relatively short time period. On the other hand, hormonal or genetic mechanisms can impact long-term outcomes. In this review, the effects of frequently used psychotropic drugs on sleep are briefly reviewed.
