Brain Magnetic Resonance Imaging Findings and Distribution of the Findings According to the Age Groups in Childhood Epilepsies

Objective: To retrospectively analyse the magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) observations and the distribution of etiological factors according to age groups in cases with MRI examinations for an epilepsy diagnosis. Methods: The brain MRIof606 casesfrom the 0-17 years -ge -roup were -nalysedretrospectively, and thefindings were evaluated according to the age group. Results: In 274 cases (45.2%) at least one lesionfrom differentpathology groups was observed. The most frequently observed pathologies were parenchymal damage, hippocampal sclerosis and cortical developmental anomalies. Conclusion: An MRI is a non-invasive, irradiation-free imaging method that can be used in the follow-up of epileptic patients to detect underlying pathologies and treatable causes of epilepsy.
