Cross-cultural adaptation and psychometric evaluation of the Turkish version of Breast Cancer Stigma Assessment Scale
Journal of Health Psychology · Ocak 2026
Özet
Stigma is a major psychosocial problem for women with breast cancer during both treatment and survivorship. Assessing stigma is critical for developing supportive care strategies. This study aims to adapt the “Breast Cancer Stigma Assessment Scale (BCSAS)” into Turkish and to evaluate its psychometric properties. This methodological study included 352 women with breast cancer and its survivors. Translation and adaptation, content, construct, validity, and reliability of the “BCSAS” were examined. In the Exploratory Factor Analysis, the factor structure of the original scale, which consists of 7 factors and 28 items, was composed of 6 factors and 23 items in the Turkish version of BCSAS. The variance explained by these six factors was 64.371%. CFA confirmed the six-factor model determined in EFA with acceptable fit indices and factor loadings. The adapted Turkish version of the BCSAS was found to be a valid and reliable measurement tool for the Turkish population.
