Multidisciplinary management of vesicovaginal and rectovesical fistulas developing after laparoscopic hysterectomy: A Qualitative Case Study
Urologia Journal · Ocak 2026
Özet
Objective: This study aims to evaluate the clinical course of a patient who developed vesicovaginal and rectovesical fistulas following LAH, with a focus on multidisciplinary management and the role of midwifery care in the patient’s experience. Methods: This study was conducted using a qualitative case study design. The case comprised a 48-year-old female patient who required secondary surgical intervention due to bladder perforation and the development of a rectovesical fistula following laparoscopic hysterectomy. Data were collected from multiple sources, including the patient’s medical records, clinical observations, multidisciplinary team documentation, and a semi-structured, in-depth interview with the patient. Qualitative data were analyzed using the six-phase thematic analysis approach described by Braun and Clarke. Results: Findings showed that surgical complications caused significant psychological distress, while multidisciplinary management and midwifery interventions improved clinical stabilization, psychological wellbeing, and adherence to care. Conclusion: A multidisciplinary and holistic care approach in the management of complex surgical complications has positive effects on patient safety, psychological wellbeing, and overall care outcomes.
