Challenges of University Students Affected By the 2023 Kahramanmaraş Earthquakes in Türkiye

This qualitative study explores the challenges of university students affected by the February 6, 2023, earthquakes in Türkiye. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews with 18 students and analyzed using thematic analysis. Interviews revealed themes of “challenges encountered during the disaster process”, “the effects of the earthquake on academic life”, and “coping methods”. Findings highlight trauma-related stress, disengagement, and social isolation, exposing systemic gaps in youth support services. Findings emphasize the vital role of social work professional practices and policy advocacy in building inclusive, sustainable interventions for vulnerable young adults during and after large-scale disasters.
