Designing a forested stream interpretive exhibit: Crosby arboretum, picayune

This study attempts to develop and test a methodology that integrates landscape restoration principles with aesthetic design concerns. It does so in the assessment of reference landscapes to include also considerations for commonly accepted design principles and elements. The methodology focused on ecological processes and vegetative patterns to influence the design and development of a Small Forested Stream Exhibit at the Crosby Arboretum, Picayune, Mississippi, USA. At the Arboretum public interpretive center, exhibits are constructed that abstract and showcase locallyoccurring ecosystems for the visiting public to understand and appreciate. For this study, designers recorded environmental data and consider aesthetic principles in the design of a stream construction. The end design was better informed to serve as teachable experiences for wetland education. The Small Forested Stream Exhibit construction was completed in 2012.
