The Eminent Cow’s Body Indices on Milk Capacity as A Recourse to Scale for Selection

Egyptian Journal of Veterinary Science · Temmuz 2026

Özet
INTERACTION between two or more independent factors could simultaneously affect a productivity trait in dairy cattle. In dealing with those issues, the index calculation approach is the fittest. However, till now, the body indices with an aptitude to milk yield capacity have not been eminently stipulated. Thus, this inspection aimed to spotlight the preeminent body indices trait as a selection criterion for dairy cattle. The whole cattle utilized as the sample were of the Holstein breed, 121 heads in number with an age stretch of 2–6, during the lactation period, and the farm was located in Indonesia. The principal component (PriCo), intercorrelation, and regression analysis were traced with R variant 4.4.2 and the RStudio computer program. The crucial body indices of dairy cattle were designated rump-length indices (RLI), pelvic indices (PLI), body indices (BDI), width slope indices (WSI), and height slope indices (HSI). Specifically, milk yield capacity was pointed to pelvic indices (PLI) and length-chest indices (LCI). Therefore, the PLI was proposed as the initial criterion selection for the milk capacity trait, followed by the LCI. After all, these indices criteria can be applied to the calf, heifer, and cow periods.
