Hyperhidrosis is defined as excessive sweating. Sweat glands play an important role in maintaining body temperature within a certain range. Hyperhidrosis is divided into two groups: primary and secondary hyperhidrosis. Primary hyperhidrosis is only seen in the face, hands, armpits, and feet, while secondary hyperhidrosis occurs as a side effect of many metabolic diseases such as diabetes, hyperthyroidism, chronic infectious diseases, and certain medications. The diagnosis of hyperhidrosis generally requires visible sweating such as dripping sweat from the hands and armpits. Various methods are used for treatment. Thoracic sympathectomy was described over 100 years ago using a posterior approach. The development of these surgical techniques has progressed to axillary thoracotomy, multi-port thoracoscopy, and finally single-port thoracoscopy. Sweat secretion is regulated by the central nervous system and the autonomic nervous system. Sweating is controlled by the hypothalamus to maintain body temperature within a certain range. Sweat secretion is mainly the function of eccrine sweat glands. There are 2-5 million sweat glands in the human body, with the highest density of sweat glands found in the palms. Sweating can be classified into three types: thermal sweating, emotional sweating, and gustatory sweating Various methods are used for the treatment of hyperhidrosis.
