The Relationship of University Students’ Internet Addiction Levels with Alexithymia, Depression, Anxiety and Stress

Özet
Aim: The current study was conducted to examine the association between the level of internet addiction and alexithymia, depression, anxiety and stress levels in university students. Methods: This descriptive and relational study was conducted with 848 students by using various data collection instruments, including the Personal Information Form, Young Internet Addiction Test Short Form (YIAT-SF), Toronto Alexithymia Scale (TAS) to Depression, Anxiety and Stress Scale (DASS-21). Results: The study revealed that a moderate positive correlation exists between students’ alexithymia, depression, anxiety and stress levels and internet addiction. It was observed that the effective determinants explained 76% of the variance in the mean internet addiction score. Conclusions: It is recommended to evaluate the multiple factors that influence the emergence of internet addiction in students and to carry out studies to increase awareness.
