Özet
The objective of this study was to determine the energy balance and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions associated with the growing of kiwi (Actinidia deliciosa) fruit in Türkiye. Within this scope, energy use efficiency, specific energy, energy productivity, net energy, and GHG emissions were assessed. The total energy input for kiwi fruit growing was calculated as 21,904.91 MJ ha−1. Among the input components, organic fertilizers accounted for the highest share at 14,175.00 MJ ha−1 (64.71%), followed by nitrogen at 3345.12 MJ ha−1 (15.27%), human labour at 1212.24 MJ ha−1 (5.53%), insecticides at 1090.80 MJ ha−1 (4.98%), machinery at 729.54 MJ ha−1 (3.33%), irrigation water at 601.65 MJ ha−1 (2.75%), diesel fuel at 422.33 MJ ha−1 (1.93%), potassium at 169.51 MJ ha−1 (0.77%), and phosphorus at 158.73 MJ ha−1 (0.72%). Energy performance indicators were determined as follows: energy use efficiency 2.65; specific energy 1.18 MJ kg−1; energy productivity 0.84 kg MJ−1; and net energy 36,215.66 MJ ha−1. The distribution of total energy input was 10.21% direct and 89.79% indirect, with 8.28% originating from renewable sources and 91.72% from non-renewable sources. The total GHG emissions resulting from kiwi fruit growing were calculated as 572.48 kgCO2eq ha−1, corresponding to 0.031 kgCO2eq kg−1 of fruit. Overall, the findings indicate that kiwi fruit growing is energetically profitable under the examined growing conditions.
